Qualifying

The F1 in Schools competition offers a thrilling and rigorous journey that tests our skills, creativity, and teamwork. Here’s a closer look at how we qualify and what it means to make it to the next stage of this prestigious event.

About qualifying

The F1 in Schools competition is structured into multiple stages, with qualifying rounds serving as the gateway to regional, national, and international races. To make it to the top, we must demonstrate excellence in designing, building, and racing a scale-model Formula 1 car while also excelling in areas such as presentation, reaction time and total race time of the car.

Stages of Qualification

To give you a better understanding of what’s involved, here’s a breakdown of three crucial elements that make up the competition: ScrutineeringRace, and Verbal Presentation.

Scrutineering

The car undergoes rigorous checks to ensure it meets the required specifications. This includes measuring the car’s dimensions, weight, and ensuring all components are within the prescribed limits. The team also submits the car’s technical and design documentation for review.

Race

The competition is typically a series of timed runs. The cars are powered by a compressed air cylinder and must race down a straight track. The team with the fastest time overall wins the race, but any errors in design or build can impact the car’s performance. Precision in construction is key.

Verbal Presentation

A major component of the competition is our ability to communicate our ideas clearly and professionally. During the verbal presentation, we explain the design, innovation, and engineering decisions behind our car. We also discuss our team dynamics, our marketing strategy, and how we managed the project. It’s our chance to showcase how we’ve approached every aspect of the F1 in Schools challenge.
